CLUE: Indian minister — not a guy using petty details (6)

Clue types: Hindi loanword, deletion

Definition: petty details

Answers: TRIVIA

Clue explained:

We need a 6-letter word meaning ‘petty details’, the definition. It will need to be formed by decoding the rest of the clue — ‘Indian minister not a guy...’

The word ‘Indian’ indicates that we need a synonym for ‘minister’ that comes from some Indian language. From Hindi/Sanskrit, we get MANTRI.

Another word for ‘guy’ is MAN. So, ‘not a guy’ means we need to delete MAN from MANTRI, to be left with TRI.

Another word for ‘using’ is VIA.

So, altogether, we have formed the word TRIVIA, our 6-letter word for ‘petty details’!
